What type of devices can I trade in?
The Dell Trade-In service accepts Dell and non-Dell electronic devices such as computers, laptops, and tablets. This program does not accept household appliances or TVs. If your device does not qualify, Dell recycles it for free.
How much do I get for my trade-in?
Several attributes are considered to determine the eligibility and amount of the Dell Trade In credit, such as age, make and model, health, and physical state of the device.
How can I use my Dell Trade-In credit and where?
Your Dell Trade-In credit is eligible for purchase of products or services on Dell.com.
How do I prepare my device
Delete your data and remove your passwords. Here's help on how to erase the data on your device.
If my device is not eligible for credit, how can I recycle it for free?
You receive an email confirming the device can be recycled with Dell for free. Pack it in any suitable box and take it to a FedEx Office near you. Dell covers the cost of shipping.
How long does the trade-in process take?
Once your device is delivered please allow up to 10 days for your device to be processed and your virtual gift card to be delivered by email.
Do I package my trade-in device?
If your device is eligible for trade-in, package up your device in the original box or sturdy box with bubble wrap to ensure it arrives safely. Insert your packing slip and and seal the box securely. You can print off the prepaid label and attach to the side of the box. Or you can have a label printed for you at any Fedex location. Drop off your sealed box at any Fedex location. Device must be shipped within 30 days.
Do I have to include accessories like chargers and cables with my trade-in?
Yes, if you have them, include chargers and cables with your device.
I added memory to my laptop, or upgraded the graphics card and so forth after I bought it. The trade in estimate does not reflect the upgrades that I made to my device.
Yes, since the trade-in value is based on the original factory configuration, you may remove any upgraded components and replace them with the original parts before shipping your device to Dell.
Can I get my device back after I ship it?
Once you have shipped your device, it cannot be returned to you.
Can I cancel my trade-in?
Once you have shipped your device, the trade-in transaction cannot be cancelled. However, you may choose not to ship your device, and the trade-in transaction will be cancelled automatically.
When is my Dell Trade-In credit issued?
Your final Dell Trade In credit is issued by email within three to four business days after the device is received and inspected.
How long after I complete the trade-in process do I have to turn in my device?
You have 30 days to ship your device after receiving the first Dell Trade In notification email.
Does my Dell Trade In credit expire?
No, but if you have not used your credit within a year and experience issues, contact Dell Customer Care.
What happens to my device after I ship it to Dell?
The device undergoes a thorough inspection and data sanitization. It is then determined if the device is eligible for resale, parts can be used for repairs, or if it should be recycled.
What happens to the data on my device?
Dell recommends erasing all data before shipping. Once received, the device and associated drives are thoroughly sanitized of all data.
How do I erase data from my device?
Dell offers Data Migrate and Erase services. Dell Migrate is $49 and can be purchased online or by phone. Instructions for self-migration and erasure are also available.
How do I track my trade-in status?
To check the status of your trade in, click the Check Status link at the top of tradein.dell.com. Enter your order number and emailed used for trade in to get a status.
The FedEx tracking number shows it was received, but I have not received a notification or value back?
Please allow up to 10 days for your device to be process. Notifications are sent by email. Be sure to check your junk folder.
Why does my device not have Dell Trade In credit value?
Several attributes are considered to determine eligibility for Dell Trade In credit. If there is no credit value, Dell recycles your device for free.
I never received my Dell Trade In credit, why?
This could happen if the device was not received at the processing center or if there were issues with the device. Check shipment details with FedEx or check the status of your device by selecting Check Status link at the top of tradein.dell.com.
What do I do if my Dell Trade In credit does not have the amount I was quoted?
The estimated credit value is based on the information provided. A thorough inspection may reveal issues that impact the final credit value. A secure email is sent with the final value.
If I have multiple Dell Trade In credits that I have not redeemed, can I consolidate those in a single card?
Dell cannot consolidate multiple virtual credits into a single virtual card.
